Tuesday, June 15 at 5 p.m. (PDT) there will be a presentation and discussion with award-winning journalist Alec MacGillis, author of the acclaimed book, “Fulfillment: Winning and Losing in One-Click America”.
Published in March 2021, Fulfillment is about Amazon’s impact on the wealth and poverty of towns and cities across the United States.
The ensuing discussion will also touch on how people can take part in this fight of our lifetime. Register here.
Amazon presents an unparalleled threat to workers – and not just those in its employ. Hundreds of communities suffer as well. MacGillis is a keen-eyed observer of US politics and economy who The Atlantic notes “was one of the first journalists to begin documenting the socioeconomic upheaval that helped shift the rural Rust Belt from blue to red and put Donald Trump in the White House.” Now he delivers a magnum opus on the future of working-class people and communities. Over his career MacGillis has broken major stories on worker struggles ranging from coal mining to higher education.
The presentation will include perspectives from Peter Olney, former organizing director for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, along with an Amazon worker and member of Amazonians United. The event provides a concise look at this challenge and how it can be confronted.
